GREAT BLUE ROOTS RADIO TRIVIAThe station name is a blend of the Great Blue Heron Festival and the Grassroots Festival According to their website, “the Grassroots Festival in Trumansburg NY is a nationally recognized event. It was started in 1991 as a concert to benefit local AIDS support organizations and other worthy causes. It has also provided regional and national exposure for excellent local musicians.” The Great Blue Heron Festival in Sherman NY was started in 1992 to support the many excellent local musicians and features many of the same performers. Rochester NY is a Progressive Blue Grass Roots Zydeco kind of town. There are many local events featuring a variety of Progressive Blue Grass Roots Zydeco performers, such as:
Rochester and the surrounding communities also have various websites dedicated to Blue Grass Roots Zydeco performers Donna the Buffalo’s tune Rocking Horse is “our song” for my husband and me My sincere thanks to my wonderful husband Denis for all he has done for me throughout the creation of Great Blue Roots Radio. With his loving support and selfless co-operation the dream is now reality. All of my love forever ~ Cheryl ABOUT MEOutfitted with a bachelor’s degree in communications from Rochester Institute of Technology, Cheryl Bergeron is making a difference in the Rochester NY radio forum by bringing Progressive Americana Blue Grass Roots Zydeco music to the internet airwaves. Cheryl’s original career choice back in her high school days was in radio. She worked for three years as a morning DJ on WTNT, a low power rock and roll station. Unfortunately, the radio career path was completely saturated at that time so Cheryl followed another route for a while. She had three amazing sons, worked as a day care provider so she could stay at home with her boys, and eventually went back to school to earn her communications degrees. The dream of joining the radio circuit was still deep within Cheryl’s spirit and that dream helped steer her academic vocation. Cheryl Bergeron is an award winning poet and a published author, with a few writing projects ever in the wings, including family memoirs of peanut races and Canadian summers. Cheryl has also been a yoga instructor and a performing artist. She taught yoga through various Rochester NY school districts continuing education programs for three years and provided instruction through a Rochester NY women’s network for Relaxation, Rejuvenation yoga. Cheryl still joyfully practices yoga everyday. At the 2008 “Imagine” RIT festival, Cheryl recited published poems and then enthralled the audience with her story telling. Even though it began to rain in earnest, listeners were spellbound by the story to the very end. They dodged the heavy drops under a canopy with Cheryl to hear the tale unfurl completely. Cheryl is full of a zest for life and positive passion, particularly for Progressive Americana Blue Grass Zydeco music. When she realized the genre’ was not played on local stations she began her personal campaign to make the music available to everyone. Inspired by Donna the Buffalo’s Rocking Horse, The Call, and Meant To Be (and most any DTB tune), as well as the music of The Horseflies, Beau Soleil, The Town Pants, Rusted Root, The Lonesome River Band, The Zydeco Roadrunners, and many, many others, Cheryl created Great Blue Roots Radio so everybody would have a chance to be moved by the melodies. |
